Chief Rex Phelps says the recent announcement of a $10,000 reward offered by Crimestoppers in the case has generated some interest, and also some concerns.
Phelps says the department has received numerous calls from parents whose students are attending Blinn and local citizens, and he’d like to try and calm those fears.
Phelps says police evidence indicates this crime was an isolated incident and was not a random act of violence.
He adds that Kurtz was not involved in any activities associated with Blinn College the night of his murder, and was not walking to or from any classes and was not on the campus.
Phelps went on to say he understands this is a time of concern for all residents and wants to reassure the public that this case is being very seriously investigated.
Brenham police are still asking for anyone with any information regarding the murder to call the department at 979-337-7272.
