TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY TO CRACK DOWN ON HOLIDAY DRUNK DRIVING

The Texas Department of Public Safety is hoping to reduce the number of drunk drivers out on the road this holiday season, and will be out on the roads trying to ensure a safe Thanksgiving for those choosing to travel.

Mothers Against Drunk driving is encouraging those who are planning to imbibe to plan ahead and have a designated driver.

According to MADD, the number of people killed in drunk driving crashes during Thanksgiving is up, and that it has overtaken New Years for the highest number of people killed in alcohol-related deaths.

They also encourage people to have a sober driver, not just a designated driver. The concern is that people believe that the person who has had the fewest drinks ends up being the driver, instead of someone who is completely sober.

AAA Texas predicts 3.6 million Texans will travel 50 miles or more from home over the Thanksgiving holiday.
