KOLKHORST WINS SPECIAL ELECTION FOR STATE SENATE

Local State Representative Lois W. Kolkhorst has won the Special Election for the District-18 State Senate seat.
Kolkhorst garnered nearly 56-percent of the vote (55.69) in defeating four other candidates to succeed current State Senator Glen Hegar, who was elected State Comptroller in November.
Kolkhorst’s closest challenger was fellow Republican Gary Gates of Richmond, who picked up 13, 414 votes (34.21-percent). Democrat Cindy Drabek received 1,900 votes (4.84-percent), while another Democrat, Christian Hawkins got 1,275 votes (3.25-percent) and Republican Charles Gregory finished with 778 votes (1.98-percent).
Kolkhorst’s percentage of votes also means there will be no need for a runoff for the position.
Kolkhorst says her campaign was all about “grass roots”…
Locally, as expected, Kolkhorst won overwhelming support , picking up 4,426 votes in her native Washington County, to 415 for Gates, 149 for Hawkins, 59 for Drabek and 9 for Gregory.
Kolkhorst says she’s very proud of her “positive campaign”…
Another special election will now have to be called for the District-13 State Representative seat that Kolkhorst will be vacating.
Among the possible candidates for the post, are Caldwell attorney Leighton Schubert, Austin County Judge Carolyn Bilski and Schulenburg energy consultant Becky Berger.
