BLINN TO HOST CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND LEGAL ASSISTANT INFORMATION SESSIONS
Blinn College will host information sessions in both Brenham and Bryan for prospective students interested in criminal justice or legal assistant careers.
Blinn’s Criminal Justice Program will host its information sessions at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at the Brenham campus Student Center Conference Room and at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, in Room 238 of the Bryan campus Student Center hosted by Program Coordinator Robert Stanberry, the sessions will describe the program, its certificate and degree offerings and offer prospective students the opportunity to ask questions.
Blinn offers Associate of Arts, Associate of Applied Science and Law Enforcement Technology degrees in criminal justice, as well as a Criminal Justice Corrections certificate. Blinn also offers a Basic Peace Officer Academy certificate through its partnership with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service Central Texas Police Academy.
The Criminal Justice Program also offers established internships with Brazos Valley law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, and its current Contemporary Issues course, “Serial Killers and Their Victims,” is taught by retired Chief Edgar Feldman, who brings more than 40 years of law enforcement experience to the course.
Blinn’s Legal Assistant Program will host its information sessions at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in the Brenham campus Student Center Conference Room and at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, in Room 238 of the Bryan campus Student Center.
Legal assistants, also known as paralegals, assist attorneys in the delivery of legal services, performing duties that include attending trials, assisting in testimony preparation, locating and interviewing witnesses, conducting client interviews and conducting investigations and research. Their role is expanding as companies look to hire employees with a broad understanding of legal matters. Job opportunities abound in private law firms, courts, government, insurance companies, administrative agencies and corporations.
The program equips students for a variety of law careers with an AAS degree or a Legal Office Certificate. Courses are taught by a faculty comprised entirely of lawyers and judges whose classes are structured to promote quality student-faculty interaction. Students completing the AAS degree are eligible to sit for the National Association of Legal Assistants certification exam, and majors in the program join the Legal Assistant Student Organization.
