BURTON FIREFIGHTERS CONTAIN EARLY MORNING OIL TANK FIRE
The Burton Fire Department responded Friday morning to a call at around 6:44 am to an oil tank fire at the intersection of FM 2780 and FM 1697, near the Lee County Line.
According to Burton Fire Chief Ronnie Stanley, lightning struck an oil tank, and blew the top off of the metal tank about 100 ft.
After assessing the situation, firefighters requested foam from the Brenham Fire Department to help put out the fire.
The tanker sitting directly next to it was disconnected and steam cleaned, and was not in danger of catching fire.
Company officials from EnErvest, the company that owns the oil tanks, were on the scene also to assess the situation.
