WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE 2027 HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
Washington County Commissioners approved the county’s holiday and payroll schedule for the next fiscal year at a brief meeting on Tuesday.

The only change of note for the holiday schedule is that the county is switching from the practice of counting an employee’s birthday as a holiday, to now observing President’s Day, which in 2027 will be on Monday, February 15th.
County Judge John Durrenberger said the change “eliminates a lot of guesswork” for Human Resources, as having birthdays scattered throughout the year made it difficult to keep up with whether an employee was taking their provided holiday or just taking paid time off. He said no holidays are being taken away, as this move makes President’s Day a countywide observation.
Two items on the agenda were tabled to next week’s meeting. Those were to take action on the Texas County & District Retirement System plan agreement for the 2027 plan year, and the Fiscal Year 2027 pay step plans for the sheriff’s office and jail, EMS, and Washington County 911.
Additionally, commissioners approved an agreement with Liberty Tire Recycling for tire recycling services for the scrap tire collection event coming up October 10-24 at the BVR Collection Station. They also read a proclamation declaring September 7 – October 7 as the official period for the Washington County READ.
