TXDOT PLANS TO USE PROP 1 FUNDING TO APPROVE AREA ROADS
Continuing to use Proposition 1 funding for the improved safety, mobility and connectivity of our state, the Texas Transportation Commission today approved 15 more projects totaling more than $239 million worth of roadway construction, rehabilitation and restoration. To date, commissioners have now approved final contract awards on 75 of the 200 planned Proposition 1 projects across the state.
Of the 15 projects approved today, two of them are in the Bryan District.
In Brazos County, TXDOT will continue to upgrade the entrance/exit ramps on SH 6 between SH 21 and FM 158. This $7.5 million dollar project is contracted to Knife River Corporation-South. Construction should begin in early 2016 and take 15 months to complete.
In Walker County, TXDOT will be adding passing lanes on SH 30, from the Grimes County Line to just west of FM 1791. This $16.6 million dollar project is contracted to Big Creek Construction, LTD. Construction should begin in early 2016 and take 14 months to complete.
In addition to addressing congestion, Proposition 1 funding also addresses safety. Over the past five years, there were 248 fatalities and more than 23,000 crashes on the highway segments where these Proposition 1 funded projects are located. The work planned in these areas is designed to enhance safety for drivers and reduce the number of crashes, fatalities and injuries.
