BLINN TO BRING FIRE SCIENCE COURSES TO BRENHAM CAMPUS

  

For the first time, Blinn College is offering fire science courses on its Brenham campus.

Based on the Bryan campus, Blinn’s Fire Science Program was developed in response to local and national needs for an advanced degree in the field of fire protection. The program is a unique partnership with the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), the nation’s most comprehensive firefighter training and emergency services instructional entity. Thanks to that partnership, Blinn fire science students participate in rigorous classroom instruction in fire safety, life safety and program management before students receive 12 weeks of training with TEEX at Brayton Fire Training Field in College Station.

Beginning in the Spring semester, Blinn will offer Firefighter Health and Safety, a three-credit hour course that teaches students about the life safety initiatives available to firefighters as well as new policy development. The course applies toward Blinn’s 60-credit hour Fire Science Technology Associate of Applied Sciences degree.

Based upon demand, Blinn plans to expand its Brenham campus course offerings in future semesters.

“We want to offer students as many choices as possible,” said Nathan Sivils, program director. “We want to make it as convenient as possible for students throughout our service area to complete our program.”

That convenience includes an online path in which students can complete most of their lecture coursework online before participating in the field portions of the program.
