BRENHAM ISD TO DISCUSS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DEMOGRAPHICS AT JANUARY 5TH MEETING
The Brenham ISD Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, January 5th to continue the process of attempting to balance the demographics on all three elementary schools in the district.
The Brenham ISD Strategic Plan was developed last fall by the BISD Strategic Planning Committee. The committee, comprised of BISD staff members and administrators, community members, parents and a Brenham High School student, developed the following district goals:
1. BISD will provide a coordinated curriculum that is implemented through effective instructional practices.
2. BISD will develop responsible, respectful, and collaborative citizens.
3. BISD will provide a safe and secure environment at all BISD facilities.
4. BISD will balance the demographics on all elementary campuses.
5. BISD will attract and retain quality staff.
The District has Goal #4 involves the district using a computerized selection process to decide which student attends which elementary school, based on logic set forth by the district, with the goal of balancing out the demographics of each of the schools.
Also on the agenda for this meeting is a discussion of the 2016-2017 Instructional Calendar and District Budget.
The Brenham ISD Board of Trustees will meet at Noon at the District’s Central Office at 711. E Mansfield
Would be nice for the media to let the general public publish the committee members names after the meeting. It would be possible to extend our thanks for this volunteer work to them individually or as a group. If all is fair, honest and above board, then that should not be a problem. There is a concern among many parents that the ciriculumn standards remain high on all campuses with the new placements, and details on how the board and staffs plan to accomplish this difficult task. I can remember back in 70’s and 80’s, the increasing rates each year of students that failed repeatedly until it was deemed that their median age in the last four years was beyond the normal age for the grade level. They eventually left the system by hook or crook and many with only 5th grade reading and comprehension levels. Would be great to hear the details on how they plan to avoid the repeat of history. I would hope that every citizen will support BISD in this monumental and most worthy task of giving each student the opportunity to achieve their individual best, the marginal and gifted alike.
