ESCAPED WALLER CO. MAN CAPTURED IN WASHINGTON COUNTY
A Washington County search has resulted in the recapture of a Waller County man who escaped while being transported to Austin, Tuesday night,.
According to the Waller County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were transferring an MHMR patient from the Texana Behavioral Healthcare Facility in Brookshire to Austin when he escaped.
Authorities say they had made a brief rest stop just west of Brenham on Highway-290, when the man—whose name cannot be released—ran off, just before 5:00 p.m.
A massive manhunt followed, involving Waller and Washington County law enforcement, along with DPS.
A DPS helicopter was called in to assist. The patient was eventually caught in the woods, near where he escaped.
The DPS continues to investigate the incident.
