LARGE TURNOUT AT WELCOME TO PRIDELAND EVENT
A large crowd of parents and students turned out Monday for the first Welcome to Prideland event at Brenham High School.
Nearly every sport, club, and course was represented at tables and booths setup in the gym, cafeteria and hallways.
Incoming students for next fall were able to learn about all the activities that are available to them at the High School.
BISD Librarian Sharon Logan, a member of the Campus Improvements Committee, says the committee wanted to come up with a way to encourage students to choose being an involved part of the High School…especially incoming freshmen…
Logan, appearing on this week’s edition of KWHI’s BISD Roundtable, says many of the groups and organizations gave away door prizes and gave the students and parents vital information.
Logan said the parents were most impressed with the first-hand look at what’s available at the high school…
Logan says BISD officials had no idea there would be, what she called, and “awesome turnout.” Student registration slips show 389 students attended – with nearly half of those incoming freshman. That number also does not include parents and siblings who attended, as well.

I thought that the crowd added to the excitement for the 8th graders! How wonderful that all these students and teachers worked so hard to host such an event. I never expected to have individual conferences — but merely an overview of offerings. Thanks to all those who contributed to making these students feel so special! Great job BHS!
the intent was good but it was more mass hysteria than actually learning about the classes and clubs high school offers. maybe next time they could split it up with core classes and athletics one day and electives and clubs another day. or maybe not crowd the booths throughout the hallways making it impossible to stop and ask questions without creating a “traffic jam” leaving the hallway blocked off to others trying to pass by. we left more confused than before we went, still unsure of all that is available to new students.
I went, and have to agree they didn’t quite think this one through. It is however their first one, so there was bound to be a couple of glitches this year.
They should’ve put the athletics in the gym and core curriculum in say that larger room where they’ll do signings if the guy was unavailable. Another option is to remove the childcare portion or put it in a classroom, as there weren’t a whole lot of children there when I came by.
I think however given the number that attended though it IS a good thing and a benefit for the high school and incoming freshmen (or honestly any class student given I saw some who were higher in rank visiting other booths), so hopefully they’ll work on these relatively minor glitches and it’ll be even better next year.
exactly. I thought the intent was awesome but they definitely have some glitches to work out. it was not very well organized. hopefully it will be better in the future.
I never expected to have individual conferences with teachers and students, either, excited parent. not everyone gets excited by a large crowd or by being bumped, pushed and shoved through an already congested hallway. good intent, BISD. something to work on for next year! I applaud your efforts.
This event was meant to be a preview of what is available at Brenham High School. It was not meant to be the only source of information that parents and students receive. Junior high students will be registering soon, aided with course selection catalogs describing courses available and the various graduation plans. The experienced counselors at Junior High and High School are ready to answer any questions a confused parent might have. The Brenham I.S.D website and app have a wealth of information available for parents, students and staff. The flyer that was available at the event has a list of organizations and the names of each contact person, this information is also available on the website in case parents were unable to attend. I am proud to have been among the many teachers who gave up our evening to represent Brenham High School and welcome our future students.
