BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD HONORS KRUSE FAMILY

  

The Brenham School Board honored Howard Kruse and the family of the late Ed Kruse with the “You Make a Difference Award” at their meeting last night (Wednesday).  Accepting the award were Howard Kruse and his wife Verlin and Paul Kruse, Ed Kruse’s son.  Ed and Howard Kruse grew Blue Bell Creameries from a small family operation to a national company.  School board vice-president Melvin Ehlert recounted the many ways that the Kruse family has helped the Brenham school district and the community.  Ehlert also spoke about the huge impact they had on his life after going to work for Blue Bell after he graduated college.

Also honored at last night’s meeting were the top three finishers from the Washington County Spelling Bee.  Second grader Avah Noor finished first at the bee, followed by Erissa Spry, and Lauren Chessir.  The three competed in the regional bee last weekend where Lauren Chessir finished second and now will compete in the Houston Spelling Bee in April.

Brenham High School Band Director Eric Rettig introduced Lauren Middleton and Jacqui Deans, who were named to the 5A All State Symphonic Band.  Middleton and Deans performed in the Texas Music Educators Association 5A All State Symphonic Band this past Saturday in San Antonio.
