WASHINGTON ON THE BRAZOS STATE PARK CELEBRATES TEXAS INDEPENDENCE

  

The 180th anniversary of Texas Independence and the 100th birthday of the Washington on the Brazos State Park itself will be celebrated, Texas-size, at the State Park this weekend.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Blinn College, and Washington on the Brazos State Park Association are planning celebrations for both momentous occasions from 10am to 5pm both Saturday and Sunday.

The Texas Independence Day Celebration is a two-day celebration that will have free admissions to Independence Hall, Star of the Republic Museum, and Barrington Living History Farm.

Ginger Moreland, Administrator of Washington on the Brazos State Park says they’re looking forward to a great weekend and have tons of events planned for everyone.

 

Entertainment continues with, Professor Farquar’s Great American Medicine Show with Polecat, a historical play titled “The Birth of a Republic”, and the unveiling and book signing of “Washington on the Brazos: Cradle of the Texas Republic” by author Richard B. McCaslin.

Family reunions of the descendants of the 59 men that signed the declaration as well as a wreath laying ceremony at the Children’s Monument, the Masonic flag raising ceremony, and additional historical reenactments will take place throughout the weekend festivities.

The “Ride for Texas Independence” began on February 24th and will reach Washington on the Brazos in conjunction with the celebration at the state park.
