BLUEBONNET OFFICES TO CLOSE IN OBSERVANCE OF MEMORIAL DAY
Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative’s offices will be closed Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day.
“Bluebonnet honors the members of our nation’s armed forces who fought and died so that we and so many people throughout the world may live in peace and enjoy freedom,” said Mark Rose, Bluebonnet’s general manager. “Please take a quiet moment on Memorial Day to remember and thank those brave men and women, and their families, for their sacrifices on our behalf.”
The first observances of what was then called Decoration Day began shortly after the Civil War as a day to decorate the graves of the nation’s war dead with flowers. May was chosen because flowers were in full bloom across the country. After World War I, Memorial Day was expanded to honor those who had died in all American wars. In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday to be observed the last Monday in May.
Bluebonnet members can access their account information and make payments while the offices are closed through the co-op’s website at bluebonnet.coop.
Should a power outage occur, Bluebonnet personnel will be on call Memorial Day to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. To report a power outage, members should call 800-949-4414. Bluebonnet’s control room is staffed 24 hours a day, every day.
