PRESS CONFERENCE HELD TO RECAP LOCAL FLOODING
A press conference was held this morning at the Cannery Kitchen in reference to last week’s flooding.
The conference featured local officials and representatives from different agencies to recap what happened during last week’s disastrous storms as well as immediate and future plans restoration.
As of today (Monday) there are four fatalities and zero known missing here in Washington County. When the flooding began Washington County opened Emergency Operations that ran 24 hours a day for a few days. The County had 8 swift water boat teams come in, in order to help with search and rescue, including Fort Worth, Denton, San Antonio, and Austin. The county has gone from search and rescue to damage assessment and recovery mode. According to Washington County Judge, John Brieden, this will be a slow process as there are still several flooded roads in the county.
The first step in this process is to assess damages. Damages need to be assessed in order to receive FEMA funds. Anyone that has received damages from the flooding needs to call the Washington County non-emergency number and record their name, location, and kinds of damages received. Judge Brieden says that this will be a slow process and something they will be working on constantly. The county is looking to help those in immediate need and then working towards long term goals.
County Judge, Brieden let citizens know that Faith Mission would be the point of contact for those in need.
Faith Mission will also be handing out vouchers to those in need, such as clothing, housing, and food as needed. In order to make Faith Mission aware of your needs, call 979-830-1448.
Faith Missions is also accepting donations. Mostly needed is new or gently used clothing. The easiest to put to use donation would be money donations and all can be dropped off at Faith Missions office at 310 east Alamo.
