APPROXIMATELY 2,000 BLINN STUDENTS EARN ACADEMIC ACCOLADES
Approximately 2,000 Blinn College students earned academic honors during the Spring 2016 semester, the College announced today.
Blinn named 849 students to its prestigious President’s Scholars List, including 457 who completed the semester with a perfect 4.0 grade point average (GPA). An additional 1,124 students earned placement on the Deans Scholars List.
To be named a President’s Scholar, students must earn a 3.75 GPA, complete at least 12 credit hours, and pass all their courses. Students must attain a 3.25 GPA and pass all their courses to earn Dean’s Scholar recognition.
“It is a privilege for us to recognize these students for their hard work and commitment to their future,” said Dr. Mary Hensley, District President/CEO. “The values they have demonstrated at Blinn College will serve them well as they transfer to elite four-year universities and embark on exciting career opportunities.”
The list of students who have been named to the President’s and Dean’s Scholars Lists is available at www.blinn.edu/honors.html.
Blinn recognized 425 graduates at its Spring 2016 commencement ceremony earlier this month. Blinn’s academic transfer rate of 39.5 percent ranks second in the state and far exceeds the statewide average of 22 percent.
According to figures compiled by CollegeForAllTexans.com, Blinn students taking 30 credit hours during the 2016-17 academic year will save thousands in tuition and fees compared to students at both public and private universities across the state.
At $4,824 for 30 credit hours, Blinn’s out-of-district tuition and fees offer students a savings of $3,835, or 44.3 percent, compared to state residents at the average Texas public university. The average tuition and fees for Texas residents at a public university is $8,659.
Students who choose to attend Blinn instead of one of the state’s 37 private universities save more than $22,000 over the course of the year. With the average Texas private university costing $27,518, out-of-district Blinn students save $22,694, or 82.5 percent.
On top of Blinn’s low tuition and fees, the Blinn Foundation offers more than 200 endowed scholarships available to incoming and returning students from a wide range of backgrounds, majors, academic backgrounds and experiences. Blinn students and prospective students can also register for external scholarships and participate in grant programs.
