BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL APPROVES GENERATOR PURCHASE

  

The Brenham City Council has approved the purchase of a generator for the Lake Somerville Pump Station to Moeller Electric Co. for a total of $123,250. The previous generator had mechanical failure after 22 years of use. City Council also approved the purchase of a shelving system for the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library for $125,293.

A mechanical bar screen for the Wastewater Treatment Plant was approved for purchase to Franklin Miller Inc. for $49,900; $20,000 below budget. Council also approved the first reading in granting a specific use permit to Grady Hardeman Jr. to allow for a church and related additional educational uses at 515 Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway. Hardeman Jr. plans is currently doing renovations to the building and plans to have it up and running within a month’s time.

The City Council approved two noise variance requests during their meeting. One request from the Washington County Bar Association for the reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Washington County Courthouse on July, 1st from 7:30am to 8:30am. The second request came from from Don and Margarett Davis for a birthday party on June 19th at 800 Pleasantview from 10:00am to 9:00pm.

Council also heard a presentation for the strategic plan for the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library. The plan highlighted three main objectives; to create a welcoming place where reading, learning, and imagination thrive, a place where users are empowered by the most appropriate resources, services, access, and information to expand their world, and a leading presence and respected voice in the community.
