PIERCE ACCEPTS LONGHORN COACHING OFFER

The University of Texas has hired Tulane’s David Pierce to be its next baseball coach.
Pierce accepted the job Wednesday morning – one month days Augie Garrido was fired.
Before taking over at Tulane in 2015, Pierce, a Texas native, was the head coach at Sam Houston State for three years. Prior to then, he was a longtime assistant coach under Wayne Graham at Rice, serving as both hitting coach and pitching coach.
This year, Pierce guided Tulane (41-21) to the American Athletic Conference regular season title. In March, the Green Wave won a series at Texas, taking two of three games from the Longhorns.
Overall, Pierce’s record as a head coach is 197-109.
According to the Austin American Statesman, Texas reportedly reached out to roughly 10 candidates, including Texas Tech’s Tim Tadlock who turned down the Longhorns, Wednesday, deciding to remain in Lubbock.
