NAVASOTA POLICE IMPLEMENT BODY CAMERAS
The Navasota Police Department has implemented officer worn body cameras for their officers.
The department started using the body cameras on October 5th. In February of 2016, Police Chief Justin Leeth requested to move forward with a grant for 14 body cameras for officers. Since then, the department received a $25,000 grant from the Department of Justice through the governor’s office.
The Navasota Police Department is one of many local agencies to add body-cams to their equipment lineup. In early September, the Washington County Commissioners Court approved a grant application to move forward with implementing officer-worn body cameras. The matching grant is for approximately $11,000 and will equip Washington County Sheriff Officers on the street with the cameras.
