FAYETTE CO. SHERIFF’S CANINE UNIT SEIZES $50,000 IN CASH
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit seized $50,000 in cash during a traffic stop Wednesday morning.
At 8:30 a.m., Sgt. Randy Thumann and his K9 partner Lobos conducted a traffic stop on IH-10 at the 661 mile marker.
Sgt. Thumann observed several inconsistencies in the driver’s travel itinerary and consent was given to search the vehicle. Sgt. Thumann located an aftermarket compartment built into the dash behind the airbag. After further investigation, he located the release to the compartment door inside the back of the cigarette lighter plug in the center console.
After accessing the compartment, Sgt. Thumann located 10 bundles of U.S. currency wrapped in electrical tape worth approximately $50,000 dollars.
The driver of the vehicle and her infant child, both from El Paso, were released pending charges for felony money laundering.
