WILD HORSE AND BURRO ADOPTION EVENT HAPPENING IN NAVASOTA
The Bureau of Land Management is holding a wild horse and burro adoption event in Navasota November 18th and 19th.
The event will feature adult and yearling horses and burros that once roamed free on public lands in the west. The Bureau of Land Management periodically removes excess animals from the range in order to maintain healthy herds and to protect other rangeland resources.
The Bureau’s staff will approve applications on site. To qualify to adopt, an individual must be at least 18-years-old and have no record of animal abuse. Adopters must have a minimum of 400 square feet of corral space per animal, with free access to food, water, and shelter. The Bureau pays a one-time $500 care-and-feeding allowance to adopters of horses that are at least four years old.
The adoption event will take place from noon until 6 p.m. on Friday November 18th, and 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 19th at the Grimes County Expo Center. The animals are offered on a first-come, first-served basis for the minimum adoption fee of $125.
