COMMITTEE CONTINUES TO SEEK NEW COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN BRAZOS COUNTY
The move towards creating a new community college district in Brazos County continues as the committee behind the proposed vocational and technical school held a press conference yesterday (Tuesday).
The Talent Initiative Steering Committee is the driving force behind the efforts to create a new community college. The committee says there is not enough access to workforce training in Brazos County. During the press conference Ivan Olson, the co-chair of the steering committee, said Blinn College “…keeps shouting how good they do in the workforce, but if you dig into the details you'll find a lot of that is being done in Brenham and Schulenburg and not enough of it being in Bryan/College Station.”
Blinn College says they have provided exceptional service to Brazos County for 46 years and they plan to build upon that success with its expansion to the RELLIS Campus and the continued development of new academic transfer and career training programs.
In a statement released by Blinn College’s Director of Communications, Richard Bray, he says Blinn’s workforce training job placement rate three-year average exceeds 90-percent, which demonstrates Blinn’s exceptional history of providing Brazos County businesses the highly skilled employees they need to thrive in today’s economy.
The Talent Pipeline Initiative Steering Committee filed a letter of intent in October with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board notifying the board of its intent to create the new district for the community college. The steering committee still needs an additional 5,000 signatures to move forward in creating the new district. The necessary signatures could be presented at the board January 2017 meeting.
