SCHUBERT URGES CONGRESS TO REPEAL ACA
Representative Leighton Schubert (R-HD13) and several of his colleagues recently sent a letter to the Texas Congressional Delegation urging them to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The Texas legislators say the Affordable Care Act has failed and attempting to 'fix' the law would be an exercise in futility: "We urge Congress to completely repeal the law, and all applicable agency rules, as soon as practicable and replace it with a system that provides states maximum flexibility in designing and regulating their own commercial insurance markets and administering state Medicaid programs."
Schubert says that despite its promises to increase consumer choice, improve the healthcare marketplace, and drive down healthcare costs, the law has yielded exactly opposite effects. According to the release, “More than half of the ACA’s state-run health insurance exchanges and consumer oriented and operated plans (CO-OPs) have collapsed primarily due to insolvency, others are facing financial instability, and the ACA’s overly burdensome regulatory requirements and faulty underlying assumptions have led to historic losses for private sector businesses.”
Schubert says that insurance carrier losses are hitting consumers in the form of decreased choice and rising premiums. HealthCare.gov has seen a reduction in overall plan availability of about 12%, meaning that the number and type of plans available to consumers is becoming more limited.
Representative Schubert represents District 13 in the Texas House of Representatives, which includes Austin, Burleson, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes, Lavaca, and Washington Counties.
