BRENHAM PD OFFICER SANTA PROGRAM TO PROVIDE GIFTS TO AREA CHILDREN
A partnership built on the desire to bring Christmas smiles to children has been deemed a success.
Brenham Police and the business community united together in an Officer Santa Program to provide toys for children in Brenham and Washington County who otherwise might have been facing a bleak holiday season.
Brenham Police Chief Craig Goodman says the program offers a chance to see officers in a different light:
The department worked with school counselors at both Brenham and Burton schools to identify children in need, and some of the information came from officers who have come into contact with the families throughout the year. Goodman said they contacted the recipients on Monday to let them know they would be receiving the gifts:
Chief Goodman says they plan on continuing the program, and that if this year is anything to judge by, it will only continue to grow.
“I want to thank each and every one of our businesses, community organizations and private individuals who have contributed money or toys to Officer Santa Program. We are only successful because of them,” said Chief Goodman.
Santa also called on some of his special ‘Elves’ to help with the purchase and assembly of the gifts. Goodman says they couldn’t have done it without the members of the Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association and Citizens on Patrol.
Members of the Brenham Police Department, Brenham Fire Department, Washington County Emergency Medical Services and Washington County Sheriff’s Office will be delivering the gifts tomorrow (Wednesday).
