FORMER BURTON/WEIMAR VOLLEYBALL COACH PLEADS ‘GUILTY’
The former head volleyball coach at Burton and Weimar High Schools has entered a guilty plea to having an improper relationship with a female student.
Megon LeStourgeon, who coached and taught in Burton from 2009-to-2012 and Weimar from 2013-to-2015, entered the guilty plea back on December 14th in a Colorado County courtroom.
According to authorities, the relationship occurred while LeStourgeon was coaching at Weimar. LeStourgeon resigned just weeks before police there began investigating the allegations.
LeStourgeon led Burton to the state semifinals in 2011, the Lady Panthers’ first state appearance in school history. She led Weimar to the state semifinals in 2015 – also that program’s first state appearance in school history.
She is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 17. She could receive up to 20 years in prison.
Colorado County Attorney Jay Johannes is recommending a five-year prison term. LeStourgeon is asking that she be given probation.
LeStourgeon remains free on $35,000 bail.
