LOCAL DPS OFFICIAL GIVES HOLIDAY TRAVEL SAFETY TIPS
Sgt. Jimmy Morgan says planning ahead is the most important key to travelling safely this holiday weekend.
Many people will take to Texas roadways today (Friday) and tomorrow, travelling to visit family and friends for Christmas. Sgt. Morgan says drivers should be prepared with their specific travel plans:
The Texas Department of Public Safety announced earlier this week that state troopers would be out in full force this weekend in an attempt to protect Texas drivers.
Last year, DPS troopers made 466 DWI arrests during the holiday weekends. They also issued 9,174 speeding citations, 893 seat belt/child safety seat citations, 320 fugitive arrests, and 286 felony arrests during that time.
DPS officials say the heightened patrols are designed to help save lives by identifying drivers who disregard the law and endanger others.
