BLINN’S HODDE CENTER OFFERS COURSES BEGINNING IN FEBRUARY

  

Blinn College’s A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center has a full slate of courses set to begin in February.

In Fundamentals of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, students learn arc welding safety and fundamentals. The 60-hour, $500 course begins Monday, Feb. 13, and runs Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m.

Fundamentals of Gas Metal Arc Welding provides a basic understanding to those considering entering the welding profession. The 60-hour, $500 course begins Tuesday, Feb. 14, and runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m.

The 32-hour Certificate for the Pipeline Welding Inspector course with a hands-on visual test begins Monday, Feb. 20, and runs weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The course costs $1,800.

A preparatory course for the American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector exam will begin Friday, Feb. 3, and will run every day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 64-hour course costs $1,795.

A 12-hour, $112 Basic Safety and Health – Online Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Card course will be held Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 8-9, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Upon completion of the course, students will earn an OSHA 191 General Safety Training Certification.

Two Industrial Safety Training – General Industry courses begin in February. The first session runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11. The 16-hour course will cost $900. A seven-hour course held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, costs $450.

A seven-hour, $450 Safeland PEC Oilfield Safety Training course will be held Monday, Feb. 6, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A $115 Powered Industrial Truck Operator will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, and a $145 Forklift Operation Certificate course will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

A $75 Certified Medical Aide (CMA) Refresher course will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11.

A $115 CPR/First Aid/Red Cross course will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14.

The 48-hour Fundamentals of Computer Hardware and Software course will cover basic and intermediate hardware and software, keyboarding, resume writing, online job searching, and a review of the Microsoft Office 2016 Suite. Students will participate in lecture and hands-on learning activities to better understand computers. The College will supply all materials as a class set. The $400 course starts on Feb. 28 and runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. The course will be taught by George Pate.

A $100 Computer – Word Processing Applications I course will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4. Introduction to Word Processing teaches the fundamentals of using Microsoft Word and teaches students to create documents and type letters.

A $125 Introduction to Customer Service course will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6. Leadership Skills for Supervisors, an eight-hour, $155 course, will start on Tuesday, Feb. 14, and run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. Fundamentals of Management begins on Saturday, Feb. 4, and runs every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The course costs $550.

Small business owners can enroll their employees in Hodde Center courses for free using Texas Workforce Commission Skills for Small Business Funds, and Hodde Center staff can help businesses complete the request form.
