OLD ALTON CAMPUS TO BECOME ‘BRENHAM ISD EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER’

The Brenham school board unveiled plans to repurpose the old Alton Elementary Campus during their meeting on Thursday.

Assistant Superintendent of Operations Paul Aschenbeck says they are planning on turning the campus into the Brenham ISD Early Childhood Center:

In addition to consolidating Brenham ISD’s Pre-K programs into one location, Aschenbeck says the smaller campus setting and consistent location will benefit both the students and teachers.

BISD is planning on repurposing the main building of the school and the first classroom. Aschenbeck says phase 2 of the project will be evaluating the conditions of 10 portable buildings located on the campus. The school district will then keep them, sell them, or have them demolished.

Also during the meeting, Superintendent Walter Jackson presented his report to the school board which included information on several bills that have been filed in the 85th Regular Session of the Texas Legislature.

Among the bills discussed were House Bill 21, which proposes a plan to overhaul the school funding system, Senate Bill 3, also referred to as the “voucher” bill, and Senate Bill 6 dubbed the “bathroom bill.”

“There are several bills that have been filed that inspire hope. We will continue to work together with state legislators and the Board of Trustees to strengthen our public schools and ensure a strong future for Brenham ISD and all students in Texas,” said Jackson.
