WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE PAVEMENT MARKINGS

The Washington County Commissioners approved pavement striping on a number of road sections in southeast Washington County during their meeting today (Tuesday).

While no one spoke during the public hearing on the proposed pavement markings, Precinct Two Commissioner Luther Hueske said he got a number of calls concerning the pavement markings.

“I had a few phone calls supporting the striping, but did have a lot of people asking for striping on the curves as well” said Hueske.

All the pavement striping which was approved during the meeting concerns the approaches to hills on:

  • Nicholson Lake Road, south of the Langhorn Road intersection
  • Indian Paintbrush Road, south of the Old Chappell Hill Road intersection
  • Mustang Road, west of Old Chappell Hill Road intersection

"We need to look at the other three precincts and identify roads that need striping" said Commissioner Joy Fuchs. "Then we could hold a public hearing on all those roads at the same time."

In other business, the commissioners accepted six public assistant sub-grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, through the Texas Division of Emergency Management, for damage to county roads caused by flooding last May.

The total grant amount comes to $706,127, with TDEM reimbursing the county for 75 percent of the cost- $529,595.

Also during the meeting:

The commissioners approved submitting a request to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts for Washington County’s portion of funds, due to unclaimed capital credits received by the Comptroller from electric cooperatives. This is a process the county goes through each year.

The commissioners heard monthly reports from the District Clerk, County Clerk, Justices of the Peace, Auditor, Tax Assessor, Treasurer, Constables, Washington County Fairgrounds Management, and Emergency Management Coordinator.

The commissioners also proclaimed April 30th through May 7th as Soil and Water Stewardship Week in Washington County.
