The Brenham Children’s Chorus was honored during the Washington County Commissioners meeting today (Tuesday).

“A lot of services like this go unnoticed, but today we want you to know that your work is noticed” said Commissioner Kirk Hanath.

The commissioners read a proclamation, honoring the chorus’ 15th anniversary.

The non-profit, community based chorus began in 2002. Since that time, it has grown to include 120 children and 6 different ensembles. The chorus has performed at a variety of prestigious venues across 10 states, including the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The commissioners also honored two integral members of the Brenham Children’s Chorus team during the meeting.

Pam Young is retiring this year after being the artistic director of the chorus since it began. Young is a graduate of Baylor University’s School of Music. She has taught public school music for 30 years.

“You’re a wonderful leader, singer, and actress” said Commissioner Joy Fuchs. “Thank you for using those talents to teach the children.”

Martha Haydon, the Brenham Children’s Chorus accompanist, was also recognized for her 15 years of service with the organization. Haydon graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a degree in elementary education, specializing in music.

“Brenham is a blessing” said Haydon. “We moved here not knowing anyone and the community has been so good to us.”

The Brenham Children’s Chorus will be holding a 15th Anniversary Concert this Friday and Saturday to mark the occasion.

The performance will take place at the W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday. For tickets, call 979-277-3897.
