BURTON MAN INDICTED FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AGAINST A PUBLIC SERVANT
A Burton man faces 5 to 99 years in prison after ramming his truck into a Lee County deputy’s vehicle.
66-year-old Robert Luza turned himself in to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office after being indicted for aggravated assault against a public servant and criminal mischief between $2,500 and $30,000.
The charges stem from an incident on February 8th near Dime Box.
Deputies responded to a call of a suspicious person on CR 424. When they arrived on the scene, they found Luza dressed only in his underwear.
Luza refused to cooperate with the deputies and against repeated commands, he jumped into his truck. He then managed to get behind the wheel of his truck and rammed the deputies’ patrol vehicle.
Deputy David Jessup shot Luza three times, hitting him in the chest twice. Jessup was cleared of any wrongdoing by a grand jury on April 28th.
Luza was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan-College Station. He spent a period in the hospital recovering before being released.
