CALDWELL COMMUNITY GATHERS FOR HONORARY BARREL RACE
The Caldwell community held a barrel race on Saturday to honor a 10-year-old girl who was killed earlier this year.
In March, Piper Faust was about to compete in barrel racing at a Southeast Texas Youth Rodeo Association event when her horse was spooked and fell backwards on top of her.
She later died from the injuries she sustained in the fall.
Over 500 people signed up to participate in the race on Saturday. There was also a silent auction and a variety of vendors selling goods. Organizers say all they money raised will go towards college scholarships for local students in Piper’s honor.
