TODAY’S KWHI HISTORY SEGMENT TO FEATURE 1963 SALT GRASS TRAIL RIDE
This month KWHI is celebrating its 70th anniversary and to mark the occasion, we are featuring a portion of a broadcast from years past every morning at 8:10- just before the Country Store.
Today (Monday) we will hear some interviews recorded during the 1963 Salt Grass Trail Ride. The trail ride began in 1952 to promote the Houston Livestock Show. For many years, the Salt Grass Trail Ride began in Brenham and would kick off with a parade through downtown.
KWHI founder Tome Whitehead Sr. was an avid supporter of the trail ride and would often travel with the group and record reports at their stops. Today’s recordings feature Tom Whitehead Sr. and announcer Ken Teufel interviewing some of the riders.
Those recordings will be added to our website under the History tab later today in case you miss it. Also available are numerous old photos and videos from past years at KWHI.
