CUBS READY FOR RAIDERS IN QUARTERFINALS
The Brenham Cubs continue their run in the 2017 post-season tonight when they host Leander Rouse in game-one of the best-of-three Region Quarterfinals.
The Cubs (22-8) earned a berth in the quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over Whitehouse last Friday night.
In that game, Zach Marshall accounted for the Cubs’ lone run with a solo homerun, while Chandler Jozwiak threw a complete game shutout, scattering five hits and walking just one batter.
Rouse (24-7) pulled off a double header sweep, Friday night over Bryan (13-2 and 4-1) to take the series two games to one.
It was the second-straight round that the Raiders staged a come-from-behind win. In the Bi-District, they lost the opener to Waller, 7-2, before sweeping a Saturday afternoon doubleheader, 8-0 and 5-4.
Jozwiak has been dominant for the Cubs, with two wins and a save in the Cubs’ three post-season wins. He’s also hitting .538 (7-of-13) with four rbi’s.
Marshall has hit two home runs in the playoffs, driving in seven runs, while Darvis Watson and Pierce Weiss are each hitting over .400 for the post-season.
Devin Hooper started the opener for both of the Raiders’ first two series, while Devin Tucker is 2-0 with two saves in four appearances. Jared Southard is 2-0 with a save, picking up both wins in the deciding games.
Cody Vannoy, Hooper and Tucker have helped pace the Raiders’ offense, combining for 17 hits and 15 runs batted in.
Game-one is set for 7:00 tonight at Firemen’s Park. The game can be heard on the alternate feed on www.kwhi.com and on the KWHI smart-phone app.
Game two and, if necessary, three will be Friday at Leander Rouse. Game-time is 5:00, with a 4:30 pre-game on KWHI and www.kwhi.com.
The winner of the series will face either Crosby or Galveston Ball in the Region Semifinals.
