SINGLE CAR FIRE SHUTS DOWN 290 THURSDAY EVENING

The Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department responded to a truck fire yesterday (Thursday) at approximately 5:14pm.

The one car fire involving a dodge pickup shut down the highway for approximately 20 minutes, according to department chief Michael Kmeic, as the smoke from the fire travelled across the freeway making it dangerous for travelers.

The fire began under the hood of the vehicle and moved to the cab. It took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to extinguish the flames, responding with their tanker and engine. The vehicle was cleared from the freeway and travelers could safely pass through.
