APPRAISAL OFFICE RELEASES 2017 CERTIFIED PROPERTY VALUES
Property values across the county have increased an average of 7.4% compared to last year. Washington County Chief Appraiser Willy Dillworth released the certified numbers today (Monday). The 2017 total assessed property value for the county came in at 3 billion, 557 million dollars.
After exemptions and tax freezes, the net taxable value for the county went up 6.6 percent. The city of Brenham saw a 5.9 percent increase in values compared to last year. The city of Burton saw the largest increase in values with a 15.6 percent increase after exemptions and freezes.
The Brenham School District will see a 5.4 percent increase in property values inside its district. The Burton School District will see an 11.2 percent increase in taxable property values in their district.
Dillworth will now present the certified numbers to the various taxing entities in the county. They are in the process of finalizing their budgets and will be setting their tax rates in the coming months.
There you have it folks. The Chief Appraiser has delivered to the politicians as promised, and let the spending begin! I’d bet they can get those values up to at least $4 billion with no problem in 2018. We property owners can keep paying more, right?
what a great deal. instead of raising tax rates, they artificially raise them by raising property values. Smart business.
