BRAZOS RIVER FLOODING

Heavy rains from Hurricane Harvey are expected to have a big impact on river levels early next week.

The Brazos River Authority is predicting that the Brazos River will peak well above flood stage downstream from the Brenham area on Tuesday and Wednesday.  In Richmond, the Brazos is expected to peak at 51 ½ feet by Tuesday, more than six feet above flood stage and 37 feet higher than its current level of 14 feet.  In Rosharon, the Brazos could rise to 52 feet by Sunday, 9 feet above flood stage and 34 feet above its current level.

Closer to home near Hempstead, the Brazos is expected to peak at 30 feet by Wednesday.  Flood stage is 50 feet, and it is currently below 12 feet.

Areas toward the Texas coast, such as Brazoria County, are expected to be most affected by river flooding later this week.
