CZECH REPUBLIC TO AIDE LaGRANGE RELIEF EFFORTS

Officials with the Czech Republic have announced they will be donating over $237,000 to help the families displaced from their homes in La Grange after Hurricane Harvey.

The announcement came Wednesday from the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center.

The center said that the Czech Republic's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lubomír Zaorálek, approved the provision. Brian Vanicek, Honorary Consul to the Czech Republic for Texas, notified La Grange officials that the funds will be intended for those in need of shelter, food, water, health and hygiene needs.

Vanicek will present the donation to the city during a public ceremony at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange today (Friday) at 2 p.m. Judge Ed Janecka will accept the award on behalf of the city.

The center, which serves to preserve the history and traditions of Czech descendants in Texas, said the donation represents the Czech Republic's dedication and solidarity with the United States and the Czech compatriots living in La Grange during the disaster.
