LOCAL VOTING LIGHT ON CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

  

Officials with the Washington County Clerk’s office say the turnout so far, for early voting in the state constitutional amendment election has been ‘extremely light’.

According to County Clerk Beth Rothermel, just 224 ballots had been cast as of Wednesday evening.  That is less than one-percent of the county’s 22, 656 registered voters.

Rothermel says the turnout by the end of the election could be as low as 2-percent.

The lowest recent off-year turnout was six percent in 2011, when just 1330 voters cast ballots.

Early voting continues through Friday at the courthouse annex, 100 S. Park St. in downtown Brenham.  Hours are 8 am to 5 pm.

• No. 1 — Authorizes a tax exemption for property of partially disabled veterans.
• No. 2 — Eases restrictions on borrowing against home equity in Texas.
• No. 3 — Determines how long appointed officers may serve after their term expires.
• No. 4 — Requires court provided notice to the attorney general of a challenge to a statute.
• No. 5 — Would give more professional sports team-connected foundations the ability to hold charitable raffles.
• No. 6 — Would authorize property tax exemption for surviving spouses of first responders killed in line of duty.
• No. 7 — Authorizes financial institutions to offer bonuses to customers.

Election Day is next Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
