COMMISSIONERS SEEK GRANT FOR TIRE CLEANUP EVENT

  

Washington County Commissioners voted to seek a grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for a free used tire cleanup event.  County Environmental Health Director Mark Marzahn said that if granted, the event would take place sometime next fall and would be similar to previous tire collection events.  The tire collection would take place at the City Collection Station and would be open to all residents in the county.  The county is seeking just over $12,000 for the event.  There are 7 counties in this region and the total funding available for tire cleanup is $36,000.

Marzahn said there is currently a trailer at the City Collection Station accepting tires for free from non-commercial customers.  The trailer is being paid for by some unused funds allocated to another county.  He said residents can drop off their used tires until Thursday or whenever the trailer fills up.
