PROPERTY PURCHASED FOR NEW BRENHAM FIRE STATION

  

A new south-side Fire Station is in the works for Brenham.  City Council approved the purchase of 3 acres for the station at today’s (Thursday’s) meeting.  A 5 year option to purchase the property was offered by Ed Kruse when he donated the nearby Brenham Family Park land to the city.  The city issued certificates of obligation for the purchase in 2014.

The new Fire Station will be located near the proposed extensions of Chappell Hill Street and Blue Bell Road, south of the Highway 290 feeder road.  The location will allow quick access to the 290 loop or Highway 36 south.  Brenham Fire Chief Ricky Boeker said that Brenham has been in need of a second Fire Station since the 80’s and that currently, 65 percent of their calls are to the south side of Brenham.  Brenham Mayor Milton Tate reminded Boeker after the vote that he has the land now, so he can start working on plans for the new station.
