BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS TO LOOK AT VARIANCE REQUESTS

Two property owners will be asking for variances at Monday’s meeting of the Brenham Board of Adjustment.  A property owner at 709 East Sixth Street is requesting a change in the front yard setback requirement for an existing car port.  The carport was constructed 8 feet into the required 25 foot setback.  City staff is recommending that the variance be allowed because other properties on the block have structures that encroach further into the front yard setback.

A property owner is requesting two variances for a lot at 1305 Simon Avenue.  They are planning to construct a single family residence on the lot and are asking for the front yard setback to be reduced from 25 feet to 20 feet.  They are also asking for the required 20 foot buffer to adjacent commercial property be eliminated.  The small lot was platted before the city requirements for setbacks and buffers were in place.  The city staff is recommending that the variances be granted so that the property would be consistent with other lots on that block.

The Brenham Board of Adjustments meets Monday at 5:15 PM on the second floor of City Hall.
