JUDGE ORDERS RELEASE OF WALLIS/BRYAN ISD DOCUMENTS
A Travis County district judge has ordered the release of some of the documents related to the controversial departure of former Bryan School District superintendent Tommy Wallis.
The decision by Judge Tim Sulak involves a series of public records request by several area media outlets. Wallis was attempting to keep those documents from being released.
Wallis, who is now superintendent in Kirbyville, fought to keep the records sealed, citing potential damage to his reputation and career.
The most recent ruling by judge Sulak, says some of the records requested for release contain documents related to the evaluation of Wallis, which is considered confidential information under Texas law. Sulak ruled that the other documents, however, should be released.
It will still be awhile before the public sees the documents. Wallis and his attorneys have 21 days to appeal Sulak's ruling. Should Wallis choose not to appeal, the Bryan ISD's School Board has up to 30 business days to release the records to the public.
Prior to Wallis being fired in 2016, the Board of Trustees received a report on what officials say are 14 detailed allegations of immoral conduct, arrogant disregard of district policies, and inappropriate use of taxpayer dollars.
