WORK TO BEGIN ON GRIMES CO. COURTHOUSE

The Grimes County Courthouse will be getting a face lift after damage from Hurricane Harvey.

County Judge Joe Fauth said the storm dumped 20 to 40 inches of rain and did a tough number on the historic building.

Building maintenance manager Al Peeler says the county is getting ready to settle on a bid to fix the problems, but must be cautious.

Peeler says the courthouse is on the national historic registry, so they can't just bring anyone in to do those repairs. They have to be craftsmen in those specialized skills.

Fauth said the project could cost about $1.3 million, and insurance money should cover the repairs.

Peeler says they will not bother the appearance of the structure.  He expects to have an accepted bid in the next couple of weeks and wants to begin work in February.
