COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPOINT NEW EXTENTION AGENT
Washington County Commissioners appointed a new member to the county’s Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Hannah Krebs will be filling the position of Family and Community Health Agent. She previously served in the same position in Colorado County.
Commissioners approved a Tax Phase-In Agreement with Moser Community Media for their new location at the corner of Main and North Park Streets. The company has purchased the old Bode and Tonn building and is completely remolding it for their offices. The company operates 33 community newspapers in Texas and the Brenham office serves as the hub of those operations. Company President Jim Moser explained to the commissioners what they have planned for the building:
Moser said the company is investing over $450,000 in the remolding and that the Tax Phase-In was a key part of the decision to do it. Commissioner Luther Hueske pointed out that the building will bring in much more tax revenue in its remodeled condition after the Tax Phase-In has expired than it is currently producing. He said approving the Phase-In was a “no brainer”.
In other action, commissioners approved an agreement with Capital Area Trauma Regional Advisory Council for assistance to the Washington County EMS to meet government requirements. Commissioners also approved the sale of some surplus county property through Gov-Deals, the County’s online Auction Service.
