LEE CO. ENACTS BURN BAN

  

A burn ban has been declared in Lee County, by County Judge Paul Fischer.

Fischer signed the order late Monday afternoon, putting the burn ban if effect.

Fischer tells The Giddings Times & News he checked with all the fire chiefs around the county and they all agreed the ban was needed.

Fischer says that the combination of tall, dried out grass from several hard freezes and gusty winds makes the danger of a wildfire possible.

Fischer says another grass fire during the noon hour Monday made the need for a burn ban even more pressing.

A burn ban was also enacted yesterday in Brazos County. No other area counties have burn bans.

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, 106 of the 254 counties in the state had a burn ban as of Tuesday
