P AND Z BOARD APPROVES CHANGE TO NEIGHBORHOOD BUSINESS DISTRICT
Brenham’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted to amend the list of allowed business in the new Neighborhood Business District during their meeting Monday evening. Fitness facilities were added to the list at the request of Pressley Walcik and Andy Adams, the owner of Washington County Athletics at 107 West First Street. Commission member Lynnette Sheffield questioned whether a limit needed to be set on the maximum number of people allowed at the facility. The other members of the commission said they were comfortable with leaving the wording at “personal and small group training only.” Adams said his goal was to outgrow the facility, and that he couldn’t foresee more than a dozen people there at a given time. The item will now go before the Brenham City Council.
In other action, the commission approved several property plats. The final plat of Phase 2 of the Oak Alley Subdivision off of Mustang Road was approved. Also, the preliminary and final plat of the Grinder Subdivision. The owner of the property was wanting to sell 1 ½ acres from a 5 acre tract, but because it lay inside the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction, the division had to be re-platted and approved by the P and Z Commission. The other plat approved was for a 79 acre tract on Valmont Drive. Valmont Industries was needing the property platted so they could construct a 50 by 100 foot outbuilding to house steel products that they manufacture.
