COUNTY REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS CHECKED THIS WEEK

All registered sex offenders in Washington County had their residence verified by law enforcement this week.  According to Sheriff Otto Hanak, on Wednesday Washington County Sheriff’s Investigators, Brenham Police Department Detectives, Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigative Division Agents, Texas Attorney General’s Office Criminal Investigators and the United States Marshal’s Service conducted compliance checks on all registered Washington County sex offenders.  This multi-agency status verification is typically done annually to verify that all registered sex offenders within Washington County are living at the address given to law enforcement and in accordance with state law.  Of the 72 registered sex offenders residing in the City of Brenham and rural Washington County, only 2 were found to be in non-compliance.  Criminal case reports will be filed and presented to the District Attorney’s office for prosecution.

Additionally, Sergeant Damon Wegner, assigned to the CID division at the Washington County Sheriff's Office routinely checks the status of the sex offenders residing in the county and meets with them on a regular basic to confirm status details.
