CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERS ADDING FITNESS FACILITIES TO NEW DISTRICT
Brenham City Council approved the first reading Thursday adding Fitness Facilities to the list of allowed business in the Neighborhood Business District. The change was requested by the owners of Washington County Athletics, which relocated last year to 107 West First Street, inside the new district just south of downtown. The change was passed by the Planning and Zoning Commission in February with the addition of the wording “personal and small group training only”. Neighbors to the fitness facility had objected to patrons parking along the streets in the area. No one spoke during the Public Hearing on the matter during Thursday’s council meeting. City Council approved the Neighborhood Business District last year with no required parking for business that locate there.
City Council also approved the first reading creating a Tax Phase-In zone for D Bar B Sausage and Meats (Kountry Boys Sausage). The company plans to relocate their manufacturing plant from Bellville to a new addition to their facility at 1909 Longwood Drive inside the Southwest Industrial Park. The new manufacturing facility is expected to create 10 new jobs during its first year of operation.
