BURLESON STREET MAY OPEN TO TRAFFIC SOON

Burleson Street in Brenham may soon be open to traffic again.  Public Works Director Dane Rau says that the repairs to the roadway at the Higgins Branch crossing are nearly complete.  Crews have added the curbs to the crossing and it is expected to open to traffic next week.  Rau says the contractor should complete all of the project by the end of May.

A sinkhole developed in the roadway in September of last year due to the flooding from Hurricane Harvey and the May 2016 flooding.  Burleson Street has been closed to traffic between MLK and Pleasantview Street since that time.  Engineers found that the culvert underneath the roadway had collapsed.  The water line from Lake Somerville that supplies Brenham ran just above the culvert, complicating the repairs.
